Computer Crash

We seem to have lost everything, including 6 years' worth of pictures, but hope that the techie friend who is looking at the old hard drive can retrieve something for us.

We had to buy a new laptop, but I'm having difficulty coming to terms with it technically. Also, everything is at the wrong angle, so my neck, back and head hurts whenever I have to use it.

I hope to pick up with blogging again soon. We're currently snowed in and running out of meals so will try to hike to a shop today and pray it's actually open. We've got dried stuff, dried milk, flour, frozen food and lots of Christmas treats but we're just a bit bored with it and want some fresh veigies and fruit! Jamie is working from home again today and Grace's college is closed.

The scene outside reminds us of when we lived in Canada!

I hope all my bloggy friends are tucked up cozily somewhere.

I'm so sorry to read about your computer problems. You had been rather quiet lately - now we all know why.

I hope your techie friend can retrieve the pictures. I often think I should find another way of storing ours in the event of a catastrophe. Have you thought of Flickr or some other such photo site on the Internet? I'm not too savvy about how they work - will have to do some research.

Our roads and walkways are clear but there is still a lot of snow on the ground and it's so cold, it's going to be there for a while. Yikes, I just glanced at the forecast and it looks like there may be more on the way on Friday!

Stay warm.

Oh ... ugh!!! Hopefully your friend will be able to rescue everything from the hard disk.

I started using Flickr for fear of something similar happening. If you use the free version you can upload 100MB of photos every month. I'm not consistent in uploading, but I do try to put on my favourite pictures and important events so that I have them backed up. Also, any photos that have been blogged are saved on Blogger - you should be able to get at a lot of yours that way if necessary.

Hope you soon get used to your laptop and come to love it :).

So sorry to hear about the computer. I guess my OCD about pics is not a bad thing. I tend to leave them on the camera (and the computer) until I'm able to get them printed and on a CD.
Folks are preparing for the big storm of 2010 in Alabama....

Ugh, I upload to Photobox as I mentioned to Jamie. That's unlimited because of course they're hoping you'll buy the photos from them. So hope you get the information off of the hard drive.

Oh I hope you get your photos etc. back, I know the tech people can sometimes work magic.
If you are tired of winter, you could book a flight out here to California. It's been sunny and warm all week...
(ducking all the snowballs coming my way now!)

Hey happy new year. Sorry to hear about your computer. They say that nothing can ever be totally lost so fingers crossed! I am uploading more and more to Flickr and YouTube as a form of back up ;-)

Stay warm! It's not too bad here in the south(USA). The winds were artic-like for a few days, but now it's back to normal.

I really hope you can retrieve your pictures! Which reminds me that I should download pictures to my flash drive. I try to do this every 6 months. If you get a 8MB one you can download a lot of pictures onto one of these convenient thingies.

UGH! So sorry about the computer crash. I hope they're able to relieve some of the documents from your other computer. It's my WORST fear... I'm kind of OCD about that kind of stuff so I have two external hard drives which are backed up daily and switched out weekly or monthly... one stored in the safe and this year I plan to add another backup and store it off site.... I wouldn't even know where to start to recreate business documents and records if I ever lost it all.... I know that's probably overkill for home, but (LOL)... that's just me...

Dorothy, you probably know that all of your blog photos are already saved online, just do a search for Picasa Web Albums. Your ID and password will be the same as it is for your blog.

I switched from a desktop to a laptop over the summer. I LOVE my laptop. It took a little adjustment, moving from a desk to a barstool at my kitchen counter. I really like my wireless mouse, the laptop keypad was a bit of a challenge for me.

Hi Folks!

Yes, I know the blog photos are saved. But I've only had the blog for 3 years. There will be a 3 year hole in my photos of the kids and for some reason this is a very painful prospect, like losing part of their childhood.

I kept asking for the tools and skills to back up all the info that was on the computer but it kept slipping to the bottom of the priority list. Ahem!

Valiant efforts are going on to retrieve as much as possible.

Atm it's so hard to get any work done. Exams stuff, Life-Songs stuff, music stuff. It's all like trying to shovel snow from the path with one arm tied behind your back! Aaargh!

Kristine, it's the height of the screen relative to the position of the keyboard which is the ergonomic no-no and giving me terrible headaches. I'm even waking up with back and neck pain these days. I've now put the laptop on a box and bought another keyboard to go under it. I'm hoping that helps.

Oh well. Off to cook roast potatoes for dinner. That should help! LOL!

I'm hoping as I catch up on blogs that I'll see you now have retrieved your photos and have come to grips with the laptop. I had to buy a little "chill pad" that raises the thing up HIGHER so that it works better for me.....I understand what you are saying. I love the new blog look.
