Avoiding Advent

Well, I wouldn't say we'd been avoiding it exactly. I just haven't planned all the overboard activities of previous years, for the reasons I've explained here. We've been getting ready for Christmas in a low key way but intend to enjoy the Twelve Days of Christmas fully when it's time!

In the past, for several years running, the four of us have done an inductive Bible study of Christmas during Advent. I didn't plan on it this year as the kids haven't needed more Bible study and they are not really getting into the whole Advent hype this year, so I've left it alone.

However, on Sunday on our way home from church, Grace declared that we needed to do this study again because she thought it was important for us to remember what the Bible says about Jesus coming to earth. Fair enough. So, I spent hours printing
this excellent study for the whole family, whilst cooking dinner. (See, I CAN still multi-task despite my advancing decrepitude!LOL!)

Later, after a tea involving German spiced almond biscuits from Lidl's, my new favourite store, we spent an hour and a half doing the first week's worth of study. We're pretty good at this now. With younger children you'd need all the time that's allocated for each day! {g}

I like that we have followed the kids' prompting this year over Christmas stuff. And I REALLY like the things they are prompting us to do.

Jack wasn't really feeling fed up, I'm not sure why he's making that face!

After we'd worked, we coloured in the front page. I awarded prizes for the colouring, as a joke, you understand.

Dorothy, Best Use of a Sharpie

Jack, Most Inventive Use of Colour

Grace, Most Meticulous Colouring

Jamie, Best Use of Minimalism. Okay, he just didn't finish.

Look, first of all, Lidls is Mine, all Mine, and you can't have it, OK?
Secondly, I HATE when I miss the big prize.
Who got Best Picture?

:0)

LOL! Jackie I have never lived near a Lidl's, so you are safe. The nearest one is an hour away, but happens to be near somewhere I have to drive Jack once a week so I stock up!

What's your favourite stuff?

We love this study well, to be honest I love this study. ;-) Dorothy, I love how you follow your children's desires to learn. I so enjoy reading your blog for that reason. I always learn so very much.

Good job following the kids' lead, Dorothy. I wish mine would be ready to do away with some traditions. But I feel like we have a long haul ahead with Carys only turning 3 next month!

Dorothy - I have really been enjoying reading your thoughts about Christmas/Advent this year. I love that you are taking it slower beforehand so you can fully celebrate the 12 Days of Christmas. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and your heart on the blog.
