Jack received his two remaining results today. He only got a D for Drama which was not very impressive and frankly, disappointing. Especially as he wanted the option of studying it for A Level. No resits possible for that one. Mmmm...wondering what to do.
He did however, get an B for Art which is pretty darn good. {g} And he can study that further now, which is good. He seems to 'get' Art and be quite talented. So, this is a good foundation from which to move on.
To re-cap, he now has 4 of these qualifications. (Biology, Chemistry, Art and Drama) These are IGCSE's with no course work component, all done in one year, not the usual two and one year 'early'. Jack's 'D' is a level 1 qualification. His 2 'B's and 'C' are Level 2 qualifications. It's good to get them out of the way.
He takes Physics and RS in Oct/Nov and then has a clear run up to English and Maths (most important of all) next summer. This year is the big final push for us both.
But right now, we're satisfied. {g}

Not surprised by Jack's art score. He IS extremely talented in that area from what I've seen. However, what is RS?

It's Religious Studies. We found an O Level qualification (same level as the IGCSE's) which is NOT comparative Religion, but called 'Bible Knowledge'.
It just tests *factual* knowledge of the books of Luke and Acts. No interpretation, which makes it suitable for all denoms. Or even atheists.

I have to remind myself that this is Jack's first foray into examinations and they are all a year early.
Also, I have to keep telling myself when school-educating friends do not seem particularly impressed that the PURPOSE of school/home ed is not qualifications, but a great education, which he had. And that education includes 'Hand, Head and Heart'.
Many of my friends' kids have dropped their faith by Jack's age, but he is still firmly committed, showing up every Sunday, serving his church. THAT is the result of our Home Ed, just as much as the exams he's doing.
Oh and also, for the Drama, the exam was split in two: 50% of the marks were from a performance and 50% from 4 essays he wrote in a 2 hour exam. Well, we just found out that that he got one of the top marks in the performance element.
His written exam must have been appalling to get that overall final grade.
{sigh} We have a hard road ahead with essay writing this year if he's going to get a good English grade next year. It is also concerning me that his handwriting is so bad.
Since the drama was divided into 2 parts do they take that into consideration or are drama options completely out now because of the overall grade? Seems like it should be different, but what do I know?

It might be helpful to mention that in the interview with 16+ education institutions we're looking at. What would be more helpful would be if he achieves a good grade for English next summer. There are essay questions in that exam. We have a lot of work ahead this year!
