Hi!
Just wondering. My stats say that this blog has averaged 30 hits a day this past week, which is fine. But only 3 or 4 people left comments.
What do you do when you visit blogs? Do you always leave a comment, only occasionally? Or never? I think there are a few blogs, ones I've visted only once or twice, where I've not commented, especially if there are lots of things I've disagreed with. But mostly, I'll try to leave a comment at least once a week at blogs I regularly read, partly to encourage the writer, but also partly to let them know who's reading.(And so they don't lie awake worrying that it's some ax--murderer on Death Row!)
Maybe it's just me, but I do like to know which of my friends and relatives, or maybe future friends I don't know yet, are reading about our lives. So please, if you read regularly, please do drop a comment in the box from time to time. Nothing bad will happen to you! I won't disapprove your comment. I've never had to do that! I won't argue with you. If you leave details of your own blog, I might even come and visit!{g}

Hi Dorothy! I think it is interesting to see who is reading the blog. I have many blogs that I frequent. I have a huge list of SHS ones that I try to keep up regularly and then another large list of other random people I've stumbled upon who have fun/entertaining/inspiring/creative blogs. I tend to comment on the blogs of people I know but not the "strangers." I try not to think how strange that is since I've only met a few SHS people in real life. Ha!
Frankly I skim/scan way too many blogs to be able to comment regularly. I love comments myself so I try to write when I have time. If I'm not careful I find myself spending all day reading and commenting on blogs. That doesn't leave much time for silly things like school and housework and, most importantly, writing on my own blog. :)

Deedee here. I've commented a few times but I usually read my blogs through Google reader. Usually I only pop over to the actual blog to comment if it is something I really want to say! Hey Dorothy, part of that might be my fault. I only read about a half dozen blogs other than those pals of mine on hsb - they're all bookmarked, and I'm guilty of sometimes popping back several times a day, and flicking through them to see if anyone has anything to say! LOL
Also I haven't caught up with reading back on yours - so I may be several of those people!

Speaking as a peripatetic psychopath, I make sure I _never_ leave comments... er, oops :P
LOL I know what you mean, Jackie. I do the same thing sometimes. But my stat counter separates readers who pop back more than once per 24hrs from those who come only once. So there's still a good proportion of potential axe-murderers reading! {g}
Another thing I've been known to do is to leave a blog minimized all day until I get a chance to actually read it, being interrupted quite a bit. And then it looks like I've been sat there for 12 hours poring over every word the poor soul has written. That must be pretty paranoia-inducing!{vbg}

See, I just did it again, without even thinking, on my way out the door, check email, flick through three blogs on favourites, refresh hsb, and out to the car ..... and it's only ten o'clock!

Hi Deedee! I have tried to comment on your blog but homeschool blogger doesn't like me. I can't seem to comment on (m)any of its blogs, for some reason.
I just tried again, but it didn't work.
I love reading your blog esp when you post about things unique to England.
Sometimes I comment on blogs; sometimes I don't - usually depends on how my time is that morning.... or afternoon as the case may be.
I visit often, but don't always comment. Time is my enemy most recently...But I do like to leave comments. I too, find them very encouraging. Your blog is one of my very favorites. ~Yvonne

I always leave a comment and usually on every post (LOL)... I LOVE commenting... but it does take awhile and that's why it usually takes me so long to get around to all of the blogs. Sometimes if I'm really in a hurry I'll read real quick and just leave one comment on one entry. I LOVE getting comments, myself, and so I leave comments on other blogs.
oh gosh, you can tell how long someone was here too? I am forever leaving blogs sat up all day, it's tabbed browsing that does it. that and my lazy nature! so honestly, that's another thing I shouldn't do, this is an eye opener to me - I'm thinking, who else thinks I'm stalking them .... LOL

I feel your pain Dorothy. I had over a hundred hits to my blog this week and I think I had a total of 6 comments. Now, either those 6 people REALLY like me, or I have around 94 secret admirers.lol

To get a hit counter just click on the bravenet free counter in my side bar. There are lots of types you can pay for, but this one's free.
In fact, if there's anything in anyone's blog that you like, just click on it and it'll probably take you to the site where you can get your own.
LOL. I've been known to leave something up and running for quite a long time as well.
Thanks Dorothy, I'm not sure how ready I am for anyone to read my blog yet - then they'd know for sure how 'un normal, unbalanced' and strange I am LOL But when I am ready - I'll let you know ;-)
I always worry about downloading things as my machine is getting rather temperamental in its old age!

I am not much of a commenter. I don't often have much to say. So I am probably one of your lurkers.
I am curious what stat counter you are using though. The one I was using before it quit working wasn't quite as detailed.
Or it could be that they get an error message after they post...

Okay Dorothy, you win, I'll email you my blog address, but it is invite only as I need to keep it private for a reason I think you'll know.
Remember too that you probably gained a bit of a following a while back from those awards.
I have a stat counter where I can see what town they are from (near), what links they click, from where they are referred (although it doesn't show bookmarks and things like that, just websites if I post, for example, at SHS, or WTM; or if they come from a blogline update thing . . .)
I don't always comment on blogs, but I typically do on the SHS ones.
I do leave comments when I get to reading the blogs . . my problem is I get days behind and then I spend a whole evening catching up! I try to always leave a comment.
I have noticed that my blog is similar to yours . . .I usually have 40 -50 hits on my blog but very few people leave comments!
