What I Can See In My Garden

Tessie, our little cat. She immediately joins anyone who's in the back garden. She is very disdainful and independent in the house and will not sit in laps. But in the garden, she's another creature entirely. She does normal cat stuff there, like purr and rub herself against your legs, which she won't do otherwise.

She likes to watch us work out there. Which isn't nearly often enough!Getting my laundry dry has been a tremendous battle this 'summer'. With the worst summer months for hundreds of years, days of sun, or at least no rain or gale force winds, have been few and far between.

A canny housewife needs to know which days are likely to be 'good drying days', sunny with a good breeze being best. Then, several loads will get dried that day!

A few flowers bloomed, mostly those that take care of themselves and don't need nurturing. No one here has had any time for the garden the last couple of years. It's sad, because in previous years I've loved to get things growing. But something has to give and the state of the outside of the house is one of those things.
Gliders being towed from the airfield by small planes. On good flying days, there can be as many as a dozen of them wheeling high overhead. Oxfordshire has the best conditions in Southern England for gliding, apparently. Something to do with the thermal air currents we produce here!
Good drying days mean heavier things get washed, like this quilt. One of the first things I bought when we got married. It's lasted very well.

I had to wash it in the bath, as it was too big for my machine. I stood treading it in soapy water, like a grape trampler.

Maybe next summer will bring more good drying and flying days. I do feel cheated by the lack of summer this year. I can't bear that Autumn is around the corner, when we've waited so long for warmth and dryness, only to be disappointed.

Is that a blue sky I see in the photo????? There has been no blue in the sky in Hertfordshire for at least a week, and no better today, my washing is on the line as damp as it went on :-(

Your back garden looks so lush. I keep thinking about putting a clothesline in the back - but I don't know....we do have lots of sunny days....LOL I'm actually missing autumn days.

We had a sheet-drying sort of day here too. What a sad reflection on the summer when just being able to hang out washing makes me happy!

Your cat looks a little bit like our new kitten Jeter.

Also, don't you just love the smell of clothes that have been lined dry!

My grandmother use to have a clothes line . . I would to smell the clothes as she brought them in from the line. Caught up on your blog tonight . . once again . . I got behind

I'm sorry your summer has been so rainy and cloudy. I know I gain so much "recharge" during our summers.

Love the beautiful blue skies...that is what our autumn skies look like.

What a gorgeous quilt. I wish I had more time to sew. I love quilting.

I really feel down when we have a non summer. Thankfully there are not usually two in a row. There that just shows that you will have a brilliant summer next year!

Maybe you'll even get a late summer warm up with lots of sunny days in a row.

LOL. I can just picture you satnding in the tub washing your big quilt (LOL)!

WE don't dry anything outside here even though we've had plenty enough hot days to do so this summer.
