Last Sunday, the second in Advent, we had a full day, serving at two churches, but still managed to have a special 'tea' with some lemon meringue pie and really nice tiny iced hazelnut biscuits from Lidl's. Our one concession to Christmassy-ness in Advent, once a week.{g}So far, we are doing pretty well at resisting the pressure to celebrate prematurely. The kids have NOT asked when we are getting a tree up or anything yet!
The other day I had a friend over for lunch and she asked me if we celebrated Christmas. Yes, I say, but we're trying not to do it all too early this year and save our fun for the 12 Days. She told us that all the decorations in their house went up on 1st December and came down on Boxing Day! That would never have happened 10 years ago.
I feel like King Canute commanding the Christmas tide to rise no further. LOL!

When you think about it, apart from anything else, a felled tree is not designed to last indoors for four weeks!
I think we used to put our tree up in mid December - about the second or third weekend in Advent, and then it had to be down by 'Twelfth Night' - I seem to recall my mother saying she struggled with any longer than two weeks with a tree in the house!
I'm definitely liking your ideas, and next year, would like to move things forward, at least a bit closer to the 'twelve days'.

Dorothy, I really think it's great that you are doing this! I'm very much enjoying reading about all of this.
I'm enjoying reading about your changes this year, but must admit I don't know if I could do that. I LOVE to sit and relax in the living room with the Christmas lights on.. .I love to sit there to do my cross stitch, read a book, or just do nothing (LOL).
Cynthia,
I love that too! I just want to do it at the right time of YEAR! LOL!
Love your new blog design, just wanted to drop by and mention.
LOL. I must confess that I love the lights and decorations and since this is the only time of the year that I really sit around and do something like cross stitch, I probably tend to leave the lights and such up much longer than I should (LOL). I like to have this season linger on both ends VBG.
