Christmas EVE - 1st Night

Advent is over. Christmas is here. The 12 day celebration of Christmas begins tonight.

We have some friends coming over for a feast of tourtiere and a reveillon tradition of the Treize Desserts. They have 2 little girls who will enjoy assembling the gingerbread house we have for them. Our friends are both musicians and worship leaders, so the talk will no doubt be all about music and worship. We'll play, eat, sing together. I can't wait.

This week, Grace and Jack have been out a lot! They've reached the age when they have a lot of local friends and were invited to parties, meals and other Christmas get-togethers with them. Grace has been quite sociable lately and that has been a blessing. She's wanted to go and has felt welcomed by this group of teens. Wow! What a change this is from a few years ago, when she found it so hard to socialise and other kids found her so difficut to socialise with! Very hopeful!

Because they've been out and about, I've been taxi-ing them around the icy town in this bitterly cold weather. The car has slid a little, but I've driven slowly to be safe. Oxfordshire seems to have had a lot less snow than the rest of the country which has been pretty much immobilised by the stuff, with trains freezing to a halt and airposts closed and 1,000's of motorists sleeping in their cars unable to move on frozen motorways. Here, the main problem has been ice. There's a little snow left on the ground and we had freezing rain last night. I would so love a fresh fall of snow for Christmas Day but it's unlikely now.

I've been cooking. The kids and I have, between us, made:

The tourtiere filling and pastry, will assemble later.
3 types of cookies, one more to be made today,
Herb stuffing for Christmas Day
Cranberry relish
Mince pies - thought of you, Windy!
Peeled loads of veg, ready to go.

I have the meal to finish off for tonight, the Christmas Eve Presents to wrap, the turkey to prepare for tomorrow, the bathroom to clean and a marathon wrapping session for after our friends leave later! I love these last minute tasks. I'll put Handel's Messiah on while I work and later listen to the BBC's Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols live from Kings College Cambridge at 3.00pm.

Ah Christmas. It's here. The Solstice has passed - the year is turning. The days will get lighter, our mid-winter rest begins.
The Prince of Peace is here.

Dorothy, I'm trying to get the info to you that you requested...but my google won't call up your email, I can't find an email here and when I click your profile it takes me to your vegan cooking blog....so....know that I'm working on this and if I can't figure out an address for you within the hour, I'll simply email Windy and let her know SHE should email you. LOL

I've not seen her much this week - my girls are home and she's crazy organizing.
