Exam Stress

Practically every child in the country is undergoing some sort of examination period at the moment. Jack is revising for and sitting 9 'papers' (separate, national, exams) in 4 subjects this summer. He just completed a 10 hour Art exam over 2 days. He's wiped out. But he has to study today for a Chemistry paper tomorrow.

He's remarkably calm. Too calm actually, if his recent 'mock exam' (past papers taken in exam conditions) results are anything to go by.

He still finds time for Athletics. He won 3 events in regional competition last week; shot put, triple jump and 3x100m relay. And he's playing his guitar regularly, too. He even played bass a couple of weeks ago at church. He'd never picked it up before but did a creditable job. I couldn't tell, but Jamie was once voted World's Best Bass Player in a magazine (long time ago), so presumably, when he says Jack did well, it must be true.{g} He also manages to squeeze in any amount of opportunities to practise parkour, a new interest, more dangerous than most...{sigh}

If only Jack could earn a living playing guitar (did I just SAY that????) or throwing canon balls, or jumping off roofs or climbing lamp posts or running for his life away from angry security guards his life would be sorted! LOL! Unfortunately, he also needs his academic qualifications so that he has choices in the future. And it's that part which is proving so stressful.

For ME!

Not him.

God help us through this next 5 weeks.

Good luck Jack (and Dorothy) my two are grateful for the last year of freedom, although Ewok does have some serious work to do for college and might have a paper to sit. The information from him is a bit wafty on occasion.

Hope the mocks were just mocks and the real things go smoothly...

Best of luck, Jack! Poor H is in the midst of SATs this week. With luck the only time we will have to slog through them - R sensibly didn't go to school until after the SATs stage and managed to time it so that she hit Year 9 in the year they were abolished for 14 year olds. With luck they will be gone by the time Cherub gets to that stage.

Two more weeks and we start the GCSE game, though no exams until next year. R shows no inclination to slow up on her other activities either. In fact she has just added a couple of hours helping out with gym coaching on a Saturday morning. Ah well! She has one free evening. I guess I should be grateful ...

I've seen parkour in action, but not sure I could watch my own child do it!

It's a boy thing Dorothy. My 16yo son is way too relaxed laid back about exams and such. If he could make a living walking dogs, camping, canoeing, hiking - he'd be all set.

Landon is never stressed about tests, either. Thankfully, he does really well. He's not out taking chances, though, as he doesn't have an athletic bone in his body! :)

YIKES! Sounds quite intimidating.

All those exams sounds scary! It's been, err, years, since I took any like that. Did I just say years? Ugh...

I read your post on singing worship, and you hit the nail on the head. I have been a singer since birth too, became a Christian at 25, and music just *does it* for me worship-wise. My voice is disappearing with time :(, but as long as the music surrounds us, we won't ever have quiet voices.

Much luck to Jack, and I am glad we met :).

p.s. crying stinks, especially in the middle of teaching a 13 year old American History {g}.

Thanks Penny,

I'll be checking your blog to see how things go with the home church.

You've got it all wrong Jack won't be doing athletics or chemistry for a career, he will be the one making funny faces for comedy and horror films. VBG Well he does have quite a repertoire of poses and faces now!

Jodi,

Funnily enough, one of the exam courses he chose this year was Drama. 50% of the marks are attributed to a practical performance. I think he would make a good actor. Or musician. Or athlete!{LOL!}

Unfortunately, those jobs are few and far between and depend hugely on luck!
