Noodling Around

Jack is nearly at the end of his several-weeks-long examination period, but during half-term we took a day off revision and headed off to a big town to do some shopping. We took Grace with us and went to Tesco (UK's largest supermarket chain) to stock up on cheap summer clothes. Hey, no expense spared for us! Don't let the Vans hat fool you. Most of our clothing comes from either charity shops or supermarkets.

Then we met Jamie from work and had dinner in Noodle Nation, where Jack posed nicely for a photograph. I tell you, his children are going to be so annoyed that the only photos they have of their father are ones like this!

When they are grown up. Whilst they are still kids they'll probably think these shots are hysterical. Mmmm... Next, we drove off to the cinema for the big half-term treat: X-Men Origins, Wolverine. It was action packed and beautiful to look at, with great stunt work. Shame there was no plot!

No one seemed to mind that, though.{g}

Jack had 2 more papers (parts of exams) this past week and has 3 more next week and then it's all over for now. We wait until 10th August (I think) for the results.

I tell you, this last bit of home-educating is the most exhausting. Oh boy, am I ready for the Home For The Bewildered now. I'm looking back to those days of play dough, snuggling on the sofa to read and walks to the park with great fondness.{sigh}

Is Noodle Nation a chain? I'll definitely have to add a stop there on our next trip to England - we love noodles!

We loved shopping at Asda for clothes the last time we were in England - great pajamas and dressing gowns. No point in paying top dollar (or pound!) for clothes when kids grow so fast and are so rough on their clothes these days.

Hi Pamela,

Yes, it is a chain. There are others too.

ASDA clothes are good value, but we don't live very close to one.

When are you coming over next?

You are making me feel relieved that I can leave all that GCSE stuff to the school - though the home educator in me can't help but feel a bit guilty!

At least you get a picture of his face! My ds always manages to hide behind something just as I click the button!

Jack reminds me of my BIL who made faces in all of the formal pics of my wedding to his brother. Yeah, lovely. Still mad at him for that almost 16 years after the fact. LOL

Jack! What will your future wife think someday? Of course I have next to no photos of my own teen from the past year plus as he went on strike against my ever present camera. Boys, what to do with them!?

I'm not sure if I clicked on the right post...about the gov't report...

Apparently, the gov't thinks they are having such a smashing success at educating children that they want to be sure to "get" ours too. ("Ours" because we have the same underlying currents here.) I am, however, thankful that we don't have to undergo the weeks of examination that Jack is. The ridiculous thing here is that *I* have to account to the school district if my child falls below the 4th percentile. That basically means that 1/3 of the public school kids are in that same 1/3 percentile, and obviously the school isn't doing such a great job with them. (eyes rolling)

Scary stuff, all with the notion that they will indoctrinate our kids to their agenda as soon as they possibly can. I do not for one minute believe they have the best interests of children in mind...
