ASDAN Fun

We went to an International Day yesterday that I'd organised for our home-ed friends who are doing ASDAN awards and qualifications. ASDAN is a great system for acquiring qualifications relatively painlessly (ie not using exams) through portfolios of challenges completed. If you are Home-Edding in the UK and you have a child 10 or over you may want to look into it. The home-ed group in Oxford is the first non-school or college in the UK to have been awarded 'ASDAN centre status' and some of the mums have qualified as moderators.

So, many of the activities which earn credits can be done at home, but some benefit from getting together in a group. Six families came, each of the older children taking on some aspects of another country to complete various practical projects on. Grace and Jack chose to cook a meal from France and Canada respectively.

Jack cooked Reveillon tortiere andButter Tarts!!!! Grace made a wonderful ratatouille and this Salade Nicoise. She also chose to sing a song in French to the assembled company, which she did, perfectly! I knew that Usborne Book of Folk-Songs from Around the World would come in handy eventually! She also had a task which involved using the internet to compare the climate of 4 French cities with that of London. She needed help with that one.Jack did some stamp collecting and arranging, cooked the meal and did the same climate research task. I forgot to take pictures of him yesterday. He wasn't feeling so great, but he came anyway. Both the kids (actually all of them) did really well and duly earned their credits.

The thing I love about ASDAN work is that these are the sorts of fun tasks we have always loved doing in our home-education anyway. So, it's wonderful to think that we are earning credits towards a nationally recognised qualification while we do them!
Grace always seems to attract little ones wherever she goes!

That food all looks very yummy! And that church hall looks very familiar {g}. Say hello to J from me next time you see her.

I had the same problem with the trees on my blog when I looked at it. Why???? The trees have now been felled, so you should be able to read OK.

ASDAN sounds like a wonderful way to earn your credits. Sure wish we had something similar here.

We are still trying to decide whether we should use NARHS (this is the highschool that De'Etta uses with her boys) for Bessie as NY has decided to make it very difficult for homeschoolers to attend their colleges with a certified diploma! Ugh!

The food looks so yummy and I just love Grace's vest she is wearing. Great job everyone!

Your children (sorry - young adults) are gorgeous and their food looks delish!

I'm catching up on my blog reading tonight. I always love reading yours. In a British accent. :^)
