This Sunday is the first Sunday in Advent and it will soon be time to bring down our basket of Christmas books, to start an Advent Bible Study or book reading. Advent comes from the latin adventus meaning 'arrival' and a time when, traditionally, the church prepared for the great feast of Christmas. The first Sunday was always one where the Second Coming was looked forward to and preached on. It's good to be reminded that Jesus hasn't just been and gone 2000 years ago, but that He will come again.
We're planning a slightly different Sunday, a family memorial day, when we take stock of the year, thank God for his care for us over this past year, write down (memorialise) some of those things and pray for the coming year. It will be exciting to get down the book from last year's Family Day and see how many of our prayers for this year He answered and to compare last year's blessings with this year's.
I'm planning a special meal and maybe one or two surprises.{g}

I look forward to reading more about your Advent Sunday. I love reading about the ways you bring moments of sacred thoughtfulness and celebration into your family life.
I love your book and Family Day idea! I might have to try that with my crew this year. ;) Thanks for sharing. I can't wait to read how it went!
Have a blessed day on Sunday - we're not having a regular Advent this year and I'm a bit in denial and a bit in mourning... hope yours goes well!
I really like your Family Day idea. I love reading about all the neat family times you do together. Thaks for sharing!
What a wonderful idea! That is sort of what we do on Thanksgiving - but I think I'd like to have another day like it in the spring or summer.....
Thanks for sharing. I like your new look too! I love TCBOTB.
Love the memory book idea, Dorothy! I started a Thanksgiving book just this year! How long have you been doing this?
Cynthia. This is only the second year we've done it and it was in January, I think, last year. I remember reading about this idea of making a memorial to testify to God's goodness in Sally Clarkson's books years ago but it was only last year that we finally got around to planning and actually doing it!
I'm trying it out at the same time as 'Thanksgiving' celebrations this year but it may be better in January after all. We'll see. We LOVED Thanksgiving in Canada and miss it.
I love the Family Day and memorial book idea. What a great way to truly see God's grace and goodness. Very neat!
