Ugh!
Now I've added Blog Guilt to my list of reasons to feel guilty. I think this is the longest I've gone without posting. Yes, I do realise that none of you are waiting at your computers just for me to post a picture or a recipe or an account of our day. You aren't, are you? Tell me none of you are doing that! But I still manage to feel guilty about not keeping the blog up to date.
So, some of the things we've done in the last few days are:
Had a music rehearsal in our home. 8 musicians and their equipment crammed into our living room is bizarre. I really should have taken a picture. It's especially funny when people end up playing each other's instruments because they are squashed in so close.{g}
We led the worship at church. It was one of those days when everything went really well. Jamie did brilliantly. Nothing went wrong. The instrumentation was fantastic, the people responded. I do hope God liked it.{g} I couldn't hear my voice in the monitor though and it's VERY hard to sing in tune when you can't hear yourself so I do hope THAT was ok.
Took Jack for a haircut. He is now quite shorn.
Grace went back to our old town to stay the weekend with her friend, Beccy and had an exciting time.
Fielded lots of queries from parents going on a trip I'm the organiser of. They were meant to have sent their cheques to me 3 weeks ago, but haven't and now there's a postal strike so they can't. All wanted to leave responsibility for this problem with ME and couldn't see that, after the 3'd request for payment went out early last week, they should have sent it THEN. ie BEFORE the scheduled and highly publicised postal strike.
These are the sorts of issues that make me never want to work with home-schoolers again. They ALL think they're entitled to be the exception to the rule. Any rule. All rules. {sigh} And anyone who organises an activity gets characterised as authoritarian.
I hate being The Man.
Got started planning the Kids' Praise Party our family is leading in 3 weeks.
Helped Jamie go through the songs for the evening celebration of music and testimony, called One Voice, which we're leading in 2 weeks. {gulp!} Scared stiff about this. This is the biggest, most important thing we've done for this church and it'll be the biggest 'gig' he's played since leaving the music business. The last one was the LA forum.{g} I know this is nothing like that and there is only basically an Audience of One, when it comes down to it, but oooohhhh hard not to get nervous. We figured out which instruments were needed when, scheduled the rehearsals, thought about arrangements, wondered how our sound system would cope etc etc
Sent multiple emails full of questions to our ASDAN moderator who's helping us through the work (portfolios of evidence) for these awards and qualifications. I STILL don't quite understand quite what we are doing but I'm getting closer! {g}
Managed to upset Grace's college tutor when she called yesterday. I don't know how I do it sometimes. I thought I was just asking questions about why Grace was doing certain things in her course. Tutor assumed I was criticising her and ended the call abruptly and with an icy tone. Jamie is calling the director today to arrange a meeting with all of us, including Grace, who is getting bored and asking not to go back. Eeek! Not looking forward to that meeting.
Took Jack to Athletics. And the Library. And Scouts. And his small group. I'm looking forward to when this child can learn to drive.
Or am I?{g}
Another busy day ahead, so I'd better get showered and breakfasted! See you later!

that's it. I'm exhausted just reading your blog so am going back to bed.
see ya :0)
I've been waiting...lol
Sounds like you are REALLY busy! I will pray that your concert goes well.
I hate being The Man too. For this season of my life, I've stepped out of The Man role but I know that I'll be organizing things soon for these little ones. Isaac REALLY wants a field trip to the fire station.LOL
Who cares if the instructor is happy with you? Grace needs to challenged and if that's not happening, then they need to hear about it. It's their problem for being too sensitive.LOL
I hope you've had a blessed day!
I feel your pain about organizing things, Dorothy. I run our local homeschool eloop and everyone is supposed to pay $10 to the county group to be on the loop. I deleted 25 people last week for nonpayment and they'r enot going to be any too happy about it. One gal already emailed saying the check was on the counter she just hadn't mailed it yet and would I leave her on the loop? (LOL).
Ugh..about having to meet with Grace's school. Hopefully they can find a way to give her more of a challenge.
ANd.. yep.. you'll enjoy having another driver in the house!
I also meant to say - blog when you can. I haven't had much time either.
ooh I posted a comment earlier, and it hasn't appeared .... hope I didn't say something rude?! (though I did say you'd worn me out just reading your blog and I was going back to bed... is bed a rude word?!)
however, in my excitement at remembering my googlemail password (I am trying to imagine my 17 year old self, looking into a future where I would need such a thing...) I did log in as me, as opposed to my usual 'anonymous'.
Hope this hasn't caused you a problem. I'll be anonymous now, I think, and see if that works LOL
Hope you had a good day.
Jackie
Jackie,
Not sure what happened there! But I am glad that you got a lie-in!{g}
Glad to 'see' you're back. Sometimes it's good to be busy. It makes you appreciate the quiet times. Sounds like you've got some good projects on the go. Good luck with Grace's school. I'm sure you'll sort things out with a quick word and get to the bottom of the situation in no time. Still, I understand how it's not something to look forward to. Thanks for the update!
Well, Dorothy...I for one have been waiting by the computer...you see I don't do worship team and organize totally cool homeschool stuff and buzz my kids around, I just stay home, try to teach these kids how to read or something and wait for my cyber friends to share their real lives with me! :-p
Was thinking that maybe it is sort of a cool thing that Grace is getting bored...she is sure growing and boredom is a sure sign of needing new challenges. Hope the meeting goes okay.
I check your blog every day :) I love to read about your life in England.
I understand your frustration about folks not doing things on time - I am a prompt person and have a difficult time with folks that dillydally.
I hope that things can be worked out with Grace's tutor.
Good luck with the school meeting Dorothy, I know only too well what they are like!
Oops now I feel guilty, better try and do something with my blog.
Dorothy - now that I have been caught up on your blog for the last few days I do check your blog daily too :-) Glad to hear you were just busy and nothing was wrong. Thanks for the update on what you have been doing :-)
Btdt with the homeschool trip planning. I know exactly what you mean. I hate being in charge of stuff. Unfortunately, I also have this personality that is always wanting something to happen and if no one else is going to step up and start it, I will. I try to refrain most of the time because I hate collecting money and being in charge!
I've hit that wall too. Dd even says my blog is now sooo boring; hardly the inspiration I need to post! But I'm enjoying my dull life, lol.
Hi Jen,
You've hit the nail on the head! That's exactly how I feel! I want things to happen and if no one else is making them happen I find myself (sometimes against my better jedgement) stepping forward to do it.
I think I just want the world to be a better place because I was in it. (If that doesn't sound too pompous.) And creating great opportunities for home-ed kids is making that little corner of the world, that I can influence, somewhat better.
Oh-oh. I think a psychiatrist could have a field day with what I just said!
Sorry to hear that Grace is already bored with college. Yet maybe that's some sort of a positive sign as someone else said.
I read your blog and about the activities and cheque collecting and feel encouraged. As you probably remember I used to be one of those pesky The Man's too and then decided to hibernate from it all. My kids are getting older and I'm not finding just what we want to do in the homeschool community. Thinking I might have to be a "The Man" again next year. Anyway it seems that you are less flustered and frustrated by it all now (or maybe just so used to the people's attitudes that it doesn't bug you anymore)? So I feel a bit encouraged to research things I may want to start for our HS community next year.
