We're experiencing a modern equivalent of the great Peasants' Revolt of 1381. Right here in our house. Right now.
If the modern equivalent of medieval peasants are the household machines which serve us, then ours have started a revolution by gradually, one by one, refusing to work for us. During the last month, these characters have been the ringleaders.
The car - The Wat Tyler of the movement. We're waiting for it to give up work altogether. I'm just hoping it doesn't finally expire in the fast lane of the motorway with both kids in the back.
Microwave - used many times a day, its loss is a big inconvenience and makes me much less efficient in the kitchen. Dead.
CD player - Intermittently going on strike.
Tea pot - broken
Crock pot - after 10 year's of faithful service, just fell apart.
Landing Light fitting - rusted and needs replacement
House - growing black mould up one corner of the inside, probably from condensation on this very cold corner of the house. Needs cavity wall insulation desperately.
One of the phones - stubborn and revolting. Mind you, it's 18 years old so it did good service in its youth.
Jamie said he's really sick of hearing the phrase, 'Why isn't this working?'
And now, worst of all. The computer is refusing to access anything in its D drive. Off it goes for repair. What will I do without it?
When we moved here 5 years ago, we experienced what we called an Appliance Mass Suicide Event. We had to replace almost every appliance (including the cooker) within months of moving in. It's only been 5 years and here we go again.
At least we can replace the teapot.{g}
UPDATE:
As of tonight, our car is languishing in a garage awaiting 500 POUNDS worth of repairs (after a similar amount was spent on it before Christmas.) We have borrowed a car from a colleague of Jamie's for a few days while we figure out what we can do. We have no savings, so I guess we'll have to take out a loan. {groan} I should say, we DID have savings but it's all gone on the wretched car. If only there was some sort of usable public transport sytem round here...

How incredibly frustrating to have so many things breaking at once :(
ACK! So sorry.... I hate it when we have seasons like that...
Dreadful news about the teapot - absolute disaster!
I have a crock pot you can probably have Dorothy.
Oh no! Sadly, I can relate. Hope things start looking up soon!
Ugh! Don'tcha hate it with things conspire against you? Hope the car can be fixed soon.
I have an award for you - please stop by my blog.
Pamela
Oh Dorothy, praying!
We are having the mass appliance revolt at the moment, I hope that doesn't mean we'll have the Peasant's revolt in a few years. We're out washing machine, dryer and dishwasher at the moment. Maybe if I pay them more or give them chocolate they will resume service? It can't hurt to try!
UGH - I'm so sorry to hear this. This is exactly what my pesky appliances stage when MIke is out of the town for a bit of time. It has to be a conspiracy of some sort. Praying for you and Jamie as you sort it all out.
Thank you Pamela!
