It's Day 2 without Jamie, who is sunning himself in Geneva. For work. So he tells me.
I was really anxious and upset just before he left yesterday when I had planned on being so calm and grown-up about it. But it dawned on me that the reason he left the band all those years ago was not because he didn't enjoy performing, or because we didn't like the money it brought in, but because we didn't WANT to be apart for long periods any more. The last time we were away from each other for more than a night or two was when the kids were born. If this job is going to require him to travel more, then he may as well have stayed in the music business and earned a heck of a lot more.
So, although I really didn't want Jamie to leave with the impression that I wasn't going to cope with this week without him, I couldn't keep my emotions under control and he left with mascara stains on his shirt as a memento of how pathetic I am. {sigh}
I woke at 4.00 am panicking about what would happen about Grace's special transport situation today. There are all sorts of problems surrounding it now, much bigger and more intractable and worrying than I first thought. She was stressed about it and her day on the new course which started today which she'll be doing one day a week. In the end, she had a good day. She came home late (it's a very long day for her) but happy that she was able to cope with the work (it's a Level 1 course, so within her ability) met some nice people and bumped into several old friends at lunch time which was a lovely blessing for her.
Several emails and phone calls occurred throughout the day with various Local Authority officials and the upshot of it all is that I will have to drive her myself to the campus she goes to on Thursdays and there seems to be nothing anyone can do about it. So far, it's only the Thursdays, which I could just about cope with. But 4 hours in the car...I just hope the car doesn't break down again this winter. It's getting old and cranky and we can't afford another newer one.
After all the stress of this situation, and Jamie going, in the last few days, I forgot to call my dr for an appointment to discuss my Have I got Endometrial Cancer? question. Yes, that's how things are right now, that this issue has slipped right to the bottom of my list of priorities. So, I called and have an appointment on Wednesday. I could have pushed for an earlier appointment if I'd had any energy left. But I didn't.
I think, this week, that I am being truly tested to see where my breaking point is. It's quite close, actually. We all have our weak points. I'm very well aware of where all mine are.
I need to somehow get through this week until Jamie gets back.

Praying for you, Dorothy. Glad that it's only Thursdays but hopeful that you can work that out as well eventually.
Statistical probability says your car won't break down this week, because something dropped off mine on the way to pick the children up from school.
It can't happen to both of us, obviously :0)
Still praying.
Oh Dorothy - so why won't they do something about Thursdays? Is it just because you complained that she was being sent with an unsuitable driver who clearly should stick to doing airport runs or something? How come you get more sensible ones on other days? Clearly I am more belligerent than you (and I realise that you have a lot on your plate at the moment) but I would be out there waving my disbility banner! Big hugs anyway...
{{{{HUGS}}}} Praying for you this week especially.
If there is no way out of driving her yourself on Thursdays, is there any way you could manage to stay in town during the day to cut the driving? Camp out in the library maybe? J could study ;).
Praying for you this week, Dorothy. Is Jamie taking a new job back with the band or is this just a few occasional things? I was going to ask you that before when you mentioned he would be in London when we're in London.
Oh my goodness no, Cynthia. The band he was with are re-releasing all their stuff from the 80's and doing a world tour on the back of the 25th anniversary of their best selling album. {rolling my eyes} They asked if Jamie would come to a couple of the London gigs and do a 'guest star' spot for a couple of songs (maybe during the encores?). He wasn't sure about it but eventually said yes. The kids should enjoy seeing him do his thang.
I hope you're right there Jackie. That's a bit of a mother's nightmare, isn't it? ...car breaking down on the way to pick up kids...
Kathryn, I'm trying to think of some sort of plan like that, but this campus isn't in the centre of the city, it's outside it, and the city is really hard to access with a car anyway. And Jack has stuff he needs to get to, including some exams on Thursdays.
I can't see a solution right now. But I can't think creatively when I'm stressed.
I have to say that much of my home edding life has been spent out of the house - either because we had foster children on access visits to drive around or because I still had children at school 20 miles away. We have become familiar with the cafes of many supermarkets as places to hang out working whilst consuming a very slow cup of coffee...thus reducing fuel costs. However I still think that it is scandalous you are being put in this position in the first place and we will continue to pray for a more perfect solution.
praying for you Dorothy......
Oh Dorothy! I'm so sorry to hear about all that is going on! I have just been catching up on the past few days.
I'll be praying for strength till Jamie comes home. I understand as Dh is coming home tomorrow from 14 days in Brazil on a mission trip! Not fun!
I'll also be praying for the Grace/taxi situation and for your health situation. I have had several miscarriages and understand the upset that goes with that, but I'm sure the other possibilities are upsetting and unnerving - especially with Jamie away!
You are of course, not on your own! God is there with you through all of it and He will carry you through every situation. You will find a solution to all of it and find a way through this crazy time and come out triumphant on the other side of this with a testimony of God's goodness! (((HUGS)))
(((((Dorothy)))) I'm rather at a loss for words as I can't think of anything helpful. I will be praying.
