Things we have done since Sunday

Jack read lots about Elizabeth and the Spanish Armada.
He has been to his boys' small group with the youth pastor from church.
He played games at Scouts.
He stayed too long in the pool yesterday and the whites of his eyes ended up bright red.
He had dinner with J and family.
He hung out with his friends J and W.
He has practiced guitar a lot.
He watched a tv show about brain surgery and told me again he wants to be a doctor.
He made a fantastic pastels drawing of some holly at his art class.
He has watched all three Lord of the Rings Films!
He baked flapjacks which he has renamed Jackflaps.
He has also baked chocolate and ginger muffins and you can't argue with that.

Grace has read about the Tudors, sung and drawn a lot.
She has written some of her story every day.
She has played with the cat.
She has hung out with her friends all day in the sport centre.
She has now mastered buying lunch on her own in the cafe, a day I never thought would come.
She has decided she rather likes classical music.
She went to the church 14-18 youth group.
She managed to avoid watching any of the Lord of the Rings Films.
She went swimming with some friends.
She produced two good pictures at Art.
She is having her hair cut today.

Jamie did work,
jobs around the house,
music planning for church,
listened to Grace sing,
taught Jack guitar,
fixed the door,
arranged and wrote down some harmonies for a piece we may be singing,
drove people places,
fretted about money,
got woken up at 5.00 one morning by me.

I shopped,
cooked,
cleaned,
taught,
drove,
ate,
slept
and worried.
I met W for coffee and we talked about Christmas.
I laughed a lot with the other mums in the Sport Centre.
I cried into my pillow.
I read other people's blogs and thought their lives better than my own. {tsk,tsk.}
I posted packages, bought books and replied to emails.
I searched for purple, pink and white candles. (Still haven't found the pink ones!)
I read my Bible and talked to God. He didn't talk back. But that's OK.

I cry into my pillow...and I think that everyone's life must be better on my own (based on their blogs). I'm so glad you're an honest blogger! I have never shared my blog address with anyone...but I think it might be safe with you. (Big smile) I'll email it to you in a little while. Maybe this will give me more incentive to be reflective too. Love you, sister! ~Yvonne

I, on the other hand, read YOUR blog and think "If only I could have that sort of adventure"....and think tsk tsk to myself as well. We are funny creatures, are we not? I seem to always compare my worst days with others best days.

Tonight I sat at a spouse's dinner (which I hosted as part of the whole military expectation)...and I thought "I'm really on the outside looking in" and wondered how I got on the outside and if I wanted back in or if I'd be content to stay on the outside and observe for a bit of time.

Then I came home and my grain mill blew up....I decided I'd definitely like to stay on the outside and observe...at least for this night...and tomorrow...I'll jump back into the fray.

I'm sure this is all simply part of being a military spouse without a spouse...but still expected to do the spouse things....hmmm...I really am rambling on your blog. I'm sorry.

::snort:: I've now gotten those little letters wrong two times! I really am going to have to find an optometrist down here...soon. LOL

I too look at others blogs and think oh such and such is so much better at x or y or z... LOL My blog rule for myself is that I post the good, the bad and leave out the ugly, so if it ever seems to nice over my way remember that part gets left out purposely. ROFLOL

LOVE the Jackflaps! WONDERFUL about Grace buying her own lunch! And other people's lives aren't better, just different. For me, personally, I always put on a happy face no matter what, and that goes for my blog too. It IS a very therapeutic place to reflect and organize thoughts. You commented about others possibly finding your thoughts depressing. I find them to be encouraging, a blessing to me, and can also provide an understanding for me of any real life friends who go through anything similar. And you know that God is listening, even if you haven't heard back yet.

Dorothy,
Sorry you're having a struggle right now. I'm a pretty private person when it comes to my struggles, insecurities, and weaknesses... so you'll only see our success stories and good days on my blog for now anyway.... maybe someday I'll get to the place where I'm comfortable with sharing more openly because I have the same ups and downs as everyone else.. I just don't tend to talk about them to anyone! I LOVE how so many of the blogs I read are so "real" and I realize mine really isn't "real" in that regard since I only post about the good things.

You are all so sweet and encouraging!

You know I don't expect everyone else's blog to be like mine and I certainly don't expect everyone to expose all their weaknesses in public!

It's just a fault of *mine* that I read about other people's lives and sigh. Sometimes. {g}

Jodi, I love the principle of writing about the Good and the Bad but leaving out the Ugly. (No pictures of me in the morning, then.) Excellent thought. I'll have to adopt it as my own!
