And this was a day of Medieval workshops at Bradwell Abbey, the site of a C14th priory.
We sure know our helmets!
And now it's on to weapons.
But we did like the helmets.
Momentarily distracted by some bright colours.
Jack and his friend J entering the chapel.
In this workshop groups of kids were given pots and asked to figure out what they could possibly have been used for. This was much more difficult than the helmet thing.
The pots just didn't hold their interest as well as the weapons. Now who'd have guessed?
I have an important word of advice for the women reading this blog.
And as you know, I take my responsibilities to mentor younger women very seriously.

Dorothy, you all have the coolest field trips! Gabe would have definitely loved the weapons part.
Wasn't there a famous woman warrior in British history...started with "B" I think...sorry I'm so lame on British history. You look quite fierce in your helmet.
Well done, Debbie! Yes, her name was Boadicea or the modern version seems to be Boudicca.
I *can* get quite fierce! Especially when I'm hungry.{g}
I have to admit that I wanted to take that helmet home. I think it would be terribly useful on bad hair days.
Perhaps the family would buy you a reproduction of the helmet for Christmas!
Fun field trip...as all yours seem to be!
What fun!! That is something I really miss by not having a homeschool support group - fun field trips.
What a kewl educational outing. Did you organize this one as well? Great tip for the gals (LOL).
Maybe God is waiting until we are studying this time period to move us to England? That would be next year. Cool outing.
Love the helmets! I definitely can see the usefulness, and would love it if they came into style.LOL
I want to homeschool with you guys! You all have so much fun!
We are just getting into Medieval history this school year. Trevor would so LOVE an experience like this! Holly would also find it entertaining. They'll have to settle for comic books for fun this time, lol.
We're in the midst of family outings to enjoy the "fall-ness" here -- the colors are just coming out -- but we do miss the chance to mix the colors with the cobblestones, the ivy with the iron gates. So, the burning question -- were there any chamber pots??? :-O
