Grace started college again today and has been nervous for weeks about the new routine/places/staff/taxi driver. I went out with her to introduce myself to the taxi driver and ask him a few questions, such as what time did he think they would be returning this afternoon. He was immediately hostile, refusing to even tell us how the seat belt worked, for example, and ended up, after I threatened to speak to his boss about his behaviour, calling me a racist. I hadn't noticed at the time, but I suppose he was slightly more tanned than me. Grace's last taxi driver, from Pakistan and lovely, never gave is a moment's concern, but this man was clearly off his rocker. So, I pulled her out of the cab and drove her to college myself.
Then I had an hour's motorway dash to make my hospital appointment, where I promptly broke into floods of tears not least because I find hospitals very upsetting.
The poor radiographer was taken aback at first, but after discovering I was a 'Carer' (someone who looks after a disabled relative) became immediately reassuring and sweet. The whole process, of external and internal scans, measurement taking etc was as good as it could possibly have been under the circumstances. She told me several things:
Endometrial thickness of 10 mm is way beyond what is a trigger (5 mm) for referral to a specialist and further biopsy. BUT, since I had just has a period (or whatever it was) it was entirely normal for that stage in the cycle. So, if I am post-menopausal, which one doctor told me on Monday that I was, it's very worrying indeed. If I'm not post-menopausal yet, then it's entirely normal. She did say there were no 'lumps and bumps' which I assume to mean no obvious tumour, which was a relief. But the mystery continues.
She was surprised that I'd not had a hormone series already taken, so that's the next step. The dozy 14 year old locum I saw on Monday seemed to think that would be inconclusive. I need to make an appointment for that. They need to find some reliable way of discovering if I am pre, peri or post the MentalPause.
Okay, now to my next problem, writing to the Local Authority Special Needs Transport Manager, to try to make sure we can have a taxi with a non-mad driver in future. If they decide to be awkward, then we will have to get her to college ourselves in future, which is a massive commitment which I just don't know if I can do. That would mean driving G up to an hour each way twice a day, 4 hours in the car every day, whilst still trying to home educate Jack and get him to all the exams he has this year in completely different places.
Trying very hard not to look too far down any of the bad roads I could be on. Praying God will rescue me from them.

Those are the hormone tests my friend Magss had that showed she was truly not menopausal despite not having a period for a few years. I guess they don't bother to mention that part in the definition since we don't have reason to check hormonal levels unless there is an issue. Continued prayers for your health and a nice taxi driver - can you request the one you had last year?
Ugh, Dorothy! I went through something similar this summer. Had been having bleeding between periods since January. Gyn found my endometrium to be 2cm when it should be 0.5 cm. For her, that was enough to prompt a D&C (maybe because everyone's sue happy here?). She convinced me to do it under a local anesthetic (only wimps go to the hospital and get put under). Like going to the dentist, the bad part isn't the procedure, it's the shot of anesthetic. I'm thankful they're not encouraging you to go through that! Biopsy showed chronic endometritis (inflammation of the endometrium probably caused by bacteria). I hope you get this figured out soon. Praying for resolution to Grace's travel situation as well. We faced this decision with Landon. We expected him to take Calculus and Physics at the community college this semester. Unfortunately, the branch 5 min from us didn't offer those classes AT ALL. This would have meant 3 hours in the car for me taking him back and forth, with 3 other kids at home to teach. I spent hours looking for other options and finally did find something. I hope it works out for you guys as well. I'm sure this is causing anxiety for Grace which doesn't help. I'll be praying for a resolution.
Still praying Dorothy.
Oh even more hugs...know all about school taxis anyway...for younger ds. I think you need to (sadly) hit the education office with the whole disability discrimination bit if they are uncooperative -it is clearly unreasonable to put a girl with autism in a taxi with an unhelpful and stroppy driver. She gets a taxi in the first place because of her disability...so that needs to be their first consideration. As to everything else - what can I say? - presumably now you will get more tests asap. The only consolation is that I hope you can recognise that even in the midst of what seems like random chaotic events - there is Someone who does know what is going on...but if only we knew the plan a bit better, eh?
Oh Dorothy, I've only just caught up with your blog. You have been having a rough time of it lately. I do hope things start going more smoothly soon and you get your health and the taxi situation sorted asap.
oh dorothy, bless you, still praying for you here too.
speaking as one who has just (3 days) started ferrying children to school, half an hour each way, twice a day - I would say the ferry Grace/HE Jack option is a non starter. So hit them with the big guns re the taxi driver.
As for the hormones, honey who KNOWS? It's bizarre. Drs like to sound like they know what they're on about? But with regard to the menopause, they don't!
Could they not do a D&C anyway, and analyse the content? Surely that would tell them? Only of course, you can never suggest anything, they get all huffy.
I'll just keep on praying!
Praying for a speedy and happy resolution all round, and for your peace of mind.
Renee,
Yes, I expect the hormone tests to be next.
Linda,
I can sort of see why you needed a D&C. Ugh poor you. Are you better now?
Julie,
I know you know the whole situation re taxis etc. I'm still waiting from a reply from the Manager of Integrated Transport. Different driver this morning and Jamie went out with her to suss him out. He seems of the non-mad variety. So, at least they haven't denied her access at all to the taxi. It's just Thursdays, when the loony is on, that would be a problem. If the worst comes to the worst, I could drive that distance once a week. But would really rather not.
And thanks for the encouragement about The Plan. Something bad always happens the week of a Life-Songs concert. It just seems to get worse each time.
Thanks Paula and Setrenata for the prayers!
Jackie,
I don't think drs do D&C's for no reason any more. {g} I think they need an idea of what is going on first. I'm expecting my GP, once I've gone back and sicussed it with him (blimey haven't had a moment to make that appointment yet), will need to decide who exactly I need to be referred to next. Endocrinologist? Gynaecologist? Oncologist?
Psychiatrist? LOL! A nice quiet padded cell seems very appealing right now.
Thanks, K.
Oh Dorothy, what a horrible day! Girl, just offer it up. That's about all you can do.
Praying that the specialist gets to the root of the matter. ((hugs))
I hope you will have the results very soon. Praying that a better cab driver is arranged for Grace.
Again, praying for you. Our only comfort in these times is knowing that the Lord knows our path and has gone before us!
