Celebrating Grace's Birthday

Seventeen!

Such a great age!

We celebrated a few days early because we are all too busy on her birthday. Well, she can't take a day off college and Jamie can't take the day off work.

We woke her up, as is our family tradition.

It's also tradition to take pictures before the victim is fully awake. {g}
Presents to open!
Then downstairs to see her brand new BIKE! Grace outgrew her old one a couple of years ago, so it was good to get her an adult one.
Did she remember how to ride?
A little shaky, but okay in the end!A lovely Shabbat meal and a small glass of wine for my 17 year old. With a family of alcoholics, we thought long and hard about how to approach drinking, or not drinking, with our children. We decided to model responsible drinking and one glass of wine a week, at age 17, does that, in our opinion.

Then it's time for the cake.

She is loved and cherished!

Congratulations Grace, this year, legally:-

You can hold a licence to cars and motorcycles
You can go to war
You can engage in street trading
You can purchase an air rifle
You can leave home without your parents' consent

But try not to do them all at once. Leave something for your 18th birthday, eh?

Goodness, it only seemed like yesterday I was reading your blog about her 16th birthay and all the things she could legally do!

Many happy wishes for your birthday Grace.

Happy late Birthday to Grace! Dear Grace, please do not go off to war. But if you do, first purchase an air rifle. :^)

BTW. What is street trading?

Ginger, it's selling goods on a market stall. Do you know what that is? {g}

I believe so. We're not COMPLETELY uncivilized. Well, again, maybe we are. :^D
