Some fun I've been having with Smilebox.com

I'm pleased with these. They don't take long to make, though they do cost a LOT in terms of ink to print out. But I can make a mini album in an hour. How cool is that?

For some reason, the writing in the box in the 4th layout didn't come out here, but it was printed just fine.

Ssssshhh...don't tell Jamie but I made a really sloppy Father's Day one for him for Sunday. I can't afford an album for it but I put the layouts in ordinary punched pockets and tied coloured wool strands through the holes.

I think this is going to preoccupy me during any rainy days this summer!

Mrs Wookie? Any idea where I can get a4 albums in the UK? Our local scrapbooking shop doesn't sell them and the owner looked surprised at the very idea. But I figured if anyone knew, you would! {g}

Kathryn, what do you think? Have you tried digiscrapping yet? You miss the fun of the fellowship of a crop and no more cutting and sticking, which strangely, I enjoy, but you get instant, fairly pleasing results.

Check out Smilebox

www.arrowfile.com and Creative Memories both do A4 albums :)

I've not printed out such pages just mailed 'em to friends/family to share, or done the calendar/book idea where someone else prints them out for me.

Making your own album is very popular - I do a class with it you could do some time.... :lol:

But these look great - hope you had fun!

These are beautiful Dorothy!! Have you considered using an A4 display book with slip in pages? Not as nice as a scrapbook, but might work better than punch pages and wool! :oP LOL! I find them quite cheaply at Wilkinsons or Partners.

They are beautiful, Dorothy! I love the colors and especially how you used smaller photos to layer or stack. I'm going to have to bookmark this entry for inspiration. :)

Dorothy,
Sounds like CM may have the size album you're looking for, huh?

LOVE the layouts! They're GREAT! I never thought I would enjoy digiscrapping because I do so much on the computer already, but I'm actually kind of enjoying it for all of the digital pictures I already have... certainly cheaper than printing them all out and then putting them onto a layout, at least here it's cheaper anyway.

I checked on prices/sizes of boxes to mail you and I'll be in touch later about that.. I want to be sure to get as much in there as I can of the things you'd really use!

Stephanie, I can't take credit for the layout designs. They wereall at smilebox! Check them out!

Cynthia, they are cheaper. I've worked out that the A4 paes cost me about £1.00 to print out. A page with traditional scrapbooking materials probably cost twice that.

DeeDee, thanks for the idea. I looked for something like that yesterday and couldn't relly find anything nice enough.

Mrs Wookie, Thanks, I'll check out those companies' A4 albums. (I knew you'd know!)

OOh! That looks fun! When I looked into digiscrapping a while ago I didn't come across any free programs and gave up. Off to try Smilebox now ...

Blah! They don't have a Mac version yet ... it is in the works. I've signed up for email notification when it's available.

ooh I might try this. I soooo want to try scrapbooking, but try as I might I can't find an idiot's guide. We have a shop near us laden, but LADEN with scrapbooking goodies. But no 'how to' book for complete numpties like me :0(
Digi-scrapbooking looks less threatening!

Kathryn,

It's a free 14 day trial and then $39.00 for the year which I thought was pretty good. I hope you get a chance to play soon.{g}

Jackie,
I think I worked out (roughly) that printing these pages off costs about £1 a page. Most 'proper' scrapbook pages work out at least double that, once you factor is everything needed, including the prints.
BTW I wonder if someone from your scrapbooking store would come and do a demo for you and your Guides? A good way to learn the basics and the shop will probably do it pretty cheaply as they'll want to get you hooked!

I must say that I prefer real life scrapbooking but, given the time and cost contraints on that process, this comes in as an enjoyable second best. And it's obviously a good way to send stuff to distant friends and relatives, who never have to even print it out to see it!

Great job, Dorothy! I need to get on & start playing very soon. I haven't done much yet. Summer is calling though! :-)

I really like this design. Maybe I need to switch from 12x12.

I'm enjoying smilebox and exploring all the CM software for this as well. I like your layouts as they have some color but they aren't overly fussy. LOL

Good job!
