Grace Goes To Gaol

Here at Oxford Castle, parliamentarian prisoners were held in terrible conditions. But it's okay! Nowadays it's a hotel called 'Unlocked'! Though why anyone would want to stay the night in a cell with bars at the windows, I cannot imagine.
And in the courtyard, there's a theatre company performing Shakespeare plays in the open air. Last year, we saw most of Hamlet there for my hurumphtieth birthday. But just as Ophelia started to drown, it became apparent that it was a fate we might all succumb to, it was raining that hard. So, it was abruptly cancelled.
This time, we were there to see Much Ado About Nothing, a 'raucous romance'. Though it drizzled, we stuck it out. If the actors didn't mind getting a bit wet, well, the least we could do was to stay and watch. It was an excellent performance.

On the way home, we stopped at a kebab van to get chips and the kids ate them as we walked through the city on the way to the bus stop. It was an all round British Cultural Experience, then.

Shakespeare, double-decker buses, packets of chips and a Friday night in Gaol. It's all part of growing up and being British.{g}
