Clambering Around Derbyshire

Because we were all jealous that Jack was going hill-walking and camping with the Scouts last weekend, Jamie, Grace and I decided to drive up to the Peak District ourselves. Basic accommodation was to be had at the Youth Hostel in Edale.

This is at the foot of Kinderscout, where there was a famous Mass Trespass in 1932, This was the beginning of the process which resulted in our Right to Roam the mountains of Britain and the end of private landlords preventing access to them. FREEDOM!!!!{g}

You can read an original news report
here.

YHA Edale is an Activity Centre. They organise all kinds of (to me) unpleasant activities like Abseiling, Pot-holing, Caving, Weaseling (don't ask, but nothing to do with weasels.)

I just loved the Welly Store! You must need one of those by now, Windy!

To the side of the building there's a footpath leading right up onto Kinderscout.

We rambled, climbed and walked our way through the weekend. The weather was great and we forgot all our troubles!

Wild primroses. I remember masses of them all over the countryside in my childhood. Glad to see some still left.

Don't you DARE take a picture of my bottom!

Too late.
Your feet get hot in walking boots. A mountain stream is just what's needed.

Mmmm....aaaaahh! What troubles?

Gorgeous pics in all these posts, Dorothy. But my fave is Jack helping Grace stand on that rock. It just touches my heart.
