The Last Lunchbox

I have always hated making packed lunches. You'd think I wouldn't really have to do it any more for my kids, wouldn't you? But Grace gets so stressed in the morning, getting ready for college that I have persisted. Always with plenty of complaint about how I shouldn't have to be doing it any more.{g} During Grace's final rather difficult week at college before the summer break she begged me to keep doing it for her. I did make them, even though I really don't like it, because I wanted her to have some nutitious food at lunchtime. If I hadn't done it, she'd have just bought chips in the canteen at lunchtime. {sigh}
She did tell me that this would be the last ever time she'd ask me to do it and that next year she'd handle all her own lunchboxes. I don't know why I've always found them a big pain in the butt, but I have. I hate them almost as much as I hate children's birthday parties. I know. Bad Mummy.

So, here it is. The last one ever. (I am trying not to roll my eyes and put my tongue in my cheek. In case the wind changes and my face is stuck like that.)
.
You will note how healthy the lunches I prepare always are. No crisps or chocolate or anything rubbish for my family. Eighteen years of healthy lunches. I deserve some sort of medal, I think! {g}
.
As Grace picked it up, and ran out to her taxi, her parting words were not, 'Thanks Mum!' but 'I hope it's not too healthy!'
.
Hurumph, I want that medal. I want it engraved: To Dorothy, A Legend In Her Own Lunchbox.

You definitely deserve that medal! I can't believe you have a teenager who will eat the lunch in this box - I think mine would manage the grapes and the apple juice, but the rest would fall under the categories of things she doesn't like (things, mind you, that she refuses to even try!) - doesn't like cheese, doesn't like sandwiches, doesn't like fruit in her Jello.

Hope you get your medal!

Wookie figured he's a grown up 'cause he'd eat the lunch you'd pack even tho' he'd rather have the chips :)

I once thought about trying to work out how many meals I've packed him over the 20 years and gave up.

LOL! Great post, Dorothy! Thanks for the picture. Years from now you'll be glad you recorded this memory!

Kuddos, Dorothy! I'm amazed you remembered to photograph it. I certainly would have not have thought to do so! ;-) And then lamented the fact that I didn't. LOL

That IS one healthy lunch.... complete with German juice??

Oh, the German juice comes from Lidl's, a really cheap discount store.

Lots we buy these days has cooking instructions in German. There's usually an English translation on the pack somewhere in tiny, tiny writing, but even with my reading glasses, it's often hard to spot.{g}
