For the first time this year, after 14 years of home education, I've ordered a Homeschool Planner to use! All these years, I've had various different home-made systems, all of which were fine. However, for this final year of home education, I decided to treat myself to something 'shop-bought'. LOL!
It's the Well-Planned Day by Rebecca Scarlata Keliher. It arrived today from the US and it is beautiful and charming. Perhaps for the first time, I shall be truly organised this year! Whenever people say to me, 'Oh you home-educate? You must have to be very organised!' I feel hugely guilty, because I'm not! LOL!
Anyway, this book/planner mentions 2 semesters. We have 3 'terms' here. Sept-Christmas, Jan-Easter, Easter-end of July. Can anyone tell me the traditional start/end dates of the 2 American semesters, please?
BTW Some older British universities have a quaint names for terms, different names for each. I though you might be interested in a selection.
Cambridge: Michaelmas, Lent, Easter
Durham: Michaelmas, Epiphany, Easter
King's College London: Autumn, Spring University of Wales,
Lampeter: Michaelmas, Lent, Easter
Queen Mary, University of London : Term 1, Term 2, Exam term
School of Oriental and African Studies(SOAS): Term 1, Term 2, Term 3
Lancaster: Michaelmas Term, Lent Term, Summer Term
London School of Economics (LSE): Michaelmas, Lent, Summer
Oxford: Michaelmas, Hilary, Trinity
PS Did I really write it out? This is MY LAST YEAR OF HOME-EDUCATION
Wow!
It would be good to have a 'well-planned day' at least once before I finish! LOL!

LOL! Perhaps there's still hope for me as well....
Two 18-week semesters make up the US system. My daughter is in high school and her fall term starts September 1 and ends January 25 and the spring term starts January 26 and ends June 21.
Semesters in the US: September to Christmas break & then January to May/June - depending on when the school year ends. Typically.
Congrats on your LAST year! How exciting and scary all rolled in to one I'm sure! ;-)
We don't follow the school year, but here in the U.S. the schools start at various times during August, some even begin the first week of September. They run through until December, then there's a week or two break, then spring term. Spring term runs through to June. Summer break is June - August, but some places have year round school with more breaks scattered throughout the year.
I've got so many years of homeschooling ahead! I'll be 57 when I can "retire", and even older if we homeschool college. Ah well, what else is there to do, but be there for your family. I suppose I could be sunning myself in Florida like an overstuffed lizard at some geriatric condominium complex with the other old bags, but that would get boring after a while.
typical semesters in the US go from Aug/Sept until Dec/Jan... and then from Jan until May/June.....there's fall semester and then spring semester.
But many times even though there are two semesters, many schools give report cards 4x a year......
Dorothy, U.S. semesters run generally from end of August to mid-December. Then right after the new year sometime (jan. 5 or so) until mid-May for most colleges, beginning of June for elementary and secondary schools. This is general, with lots of room for fudging. Nothing is set in stone and some colleges have now gone to trimesters, which is really confusing. Hopefully that gives you some idea anyway.
Blessings,
Laura
It will certainly be nice to have well planned days for your final year I would think!
I don't know the dates for terms out here. I just don't have a clue. In our home ed I just call them fall, winter, spring, then summer vacation. LOL Such creativity. Needless to say I would prefer a book with 3 "terms" too but maybe you can alter it.
