Today, we discovered that a local minister is spreading lies about us and our concerts. He has been telling people that we are not legally entitled to perform the songs because we do not have a licence to do so. When, in fact, applying to CCLI and paying for an Event Licence was the first thing we did when we started planning the concerts. One person, who was due to help us on the night, has already pulled out as a result of this gossip.
We do not understand why the minister is trying to sabotage the concerts. But this scripture shouted at me this morning:
'Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.'
Hebrews 12:1-3 (NIV)
I seem to be camped out in Hebrews at the moment. {g}

:hugs: Sympathy and hugs....
Oh Dorothy! Praying that this will work out in your favor and bless many people.
So sorry to hear about the roadblocks thrown in your path.
Praying for the Truth to be known, for your project on 10/11...
It sounds, Dorothy, like Satan is pulling out all the stops on this one. He must be more than a bit worried about a successful impact, whether that's on a group of people, just one person in your audience or in your band/crew, or just in creating doubt in you re following God's will on this.
Can you send a note to the area pastors explaining the concert, that you have the proper permission, etc. Then, if he still spreads gossip you can confront him on it.
Dorothy, I hope you can get past these barriers. Having lies told about you must be so frustrating.
Dorothy - this is terrible! I'm so sorry to hear you are receiving this kind of opposition. I agree with Kristine (of course) that Satan must be worried about your concert.
I think Cynthia has a great idea - can you communicate with the churches and be upfront with the status?
Praying for you!!
Not sure what to do about the local cburches. This is a bottom up project (as opposed to top down), born out of the frustrations of local church musicians with their churches.
There is a 'Churches Together' movement in our town, the local ministers (all but one) get together for a prayer breakfast once a week. Everyone thinks this unity and planned combined action is great. And in many ways it is.
But it also has the potential for stifling creativity among Christians. People seem to think they need the permission of the local ministers before they do anything.
And we still have a very low church attandance rate in our town, so apparently all this unity isn't producing much fruit.
We had planned to get the project going first and then go to the ministers and see if they want to support it. Perhaps this wasn't the best idea? I don't know. We're still praying about all that aspect of things.
