Split Pea Soup

I haven't done a soup recipe for AGES! It surely must be time for one! This recipe, an amalgam of several I've cooked over the years, works really well in the crock pot/slow cooker. And it ticks all the important boxes for me:
Cheap - check!
Easy - check!
Nutritious - check!
Tasty - check!
It doesn't tick the Pretty box, but don't let that put you off. {g} Appearances aren't everything.

Split Pea Soup
***********
8 cups hot water
2 cups split peas
1 onion chopped
3-4 garlic cloves, finely chopped
3 carrots, chopped
2 sticks celery chopped
1 bay leaf
2 tablespoons tamari or Worcester sauce or your favourite flavouring sauce
a pinch of cayenne for the adventurous among you.
______________________________
Throw the lot into the slow cooker/crock pot in the morning on low and it will be ready for dinner. (Or assemble at lunchtime, put it on high and it'll be ready for dinner.)
It will be thick and delicious. I add a dollop of greek yoghurt to mine, but wholewheat croutons are nice too. Serves several people, 6 as a meal, or more if part of a meal.

Oooooo! I'll have to try that one! Most recipes I have for pea soup contain ham and we don't eat pork products anymore, so this one looks great! Thanks for sharing!

YUM! I LOVE split pea soup, but never think to make it much. Maybe now I will with a recipe so handy right here on your blog!
