Blog Challenge - Gardens and Weather

Liz issued a challenge to show what the weather has been like lately by posting pictures of our gardens. After the driest April, we had the wettest June on record. Records are broken in this country every month now, it seems.

The latest ideas seem to be that Britain's winter rainfall is decreasing and its summer rainfall is increasing. Oh joy! The plants are loving it. Our island has never been so green! The rain doesn't seem to bother the ants in my back garden. They still seem to be enjoying ruining my lawn.

And the slugs are having a whale of a time too.
That verbena (purple stuff) cost a couple of quid last year and it's flowered all year, practically. The best buy I made last year. The brown patch on the lawn is yet another anthill.

Dorothy,
Do you mow your lawn? Just wondering because from the picture it doesn't look like there is much to mow. Love the flowers along the front walk!

Hi Cynthia,

Yes, it has just been mowed in those pics.

It's traditional to keep grass really short here. I couldn't believe how long and how hard the grass was in Canada. Just a different variety that suits the different climate, I suppose.

oh -- lovely & colorful! I love the purple verbena. I bought some this spring but planted them in a big pot & they got attacked & taken over by some voracious red plant whose name I cannot remember.
